Join Alachua Audubon Society and Alachua County Forever staff for a June Challenge Florida Burrowing Owl field trip this Saturday to the Watermelon Pond Preserve.

We’ll meet at the gate to the Burrowing Owl field at 7:30 a.m.  To get there from Gainesville, go west on State Road 26 (Newberry Road) to the town of Newberry.  When you come to the stop light where 26 intersects US 41, turn left onto 41 and proceed 2.9 miles to SW 46th Ave. Turn right onto 46th and go 1.2 miles to SW 250th (dirt road).  Turn left onto SW 250th and go 3 miles to the preserve gate.  Park on the side of the road as best you can.

The group will walk a half mile to the burrowing owl viewing area.  (If you reach the Watermelon Pond Boat Ramp parking area at: 10700 SW 250 St, Newberry, FL 32669, you went 0.7 miles too far).

Bring a scope for better viewing.
