Meet Chris Burney and Ivor Kincade at Powers Park on Hawthorne Rd. to car pool to the 500-acre Prairie Creek Preserve. The Preserve encompasses a variety of uplands and lowlands, and we’ll sample several of them on this trip. Wear rubber boots or old shoes you don’t mind getting wet, as the trail can be soggy or even flooded. (NOTE: Meeting time is 8 a.m., not 6 a.m. as shown on the printable one-page schedule.)

Difficulty: 2 (may involve uneven terrain one to two miles).

  1. Hello

My name is Tom Hartman. A friend, Steve McGinnis, and I are traveling from Columbia SC to Prairie Creek Preserve to hopefully see the Henslow’s sparrow. Is there any advice you can give us to successfully find this bird. It surely would be appreciated. We are also going to try and see the Spragues Pipit and the Vaux Swift and might go to the Tampa area and see the Nelson’s Sparrow. I am trying to get as close description where to go to see this birds so whatever advice you could give I am sure will be helpful. Thanks for your time.

  2. Hello again. Just noticed that Rex Rowan is a person of interest for this area and am hoping that he could give me a call. Telephone number is 803-730-3288. We are going to be in Florida for several days but will be chasing the Henslow’s sparrow Sunday morning. Any advice you can give us would be great. Thanks again for your time.
